Enviroschools is an innovative nationwide school programme where students plan, design and create sustainable communities. One quarter of schools in New Zealand are now part of the growing network of enviroschools.
On 29 May 2009, the Ministry of Education sent a letter to The Enviroschools Foundation stating that they do not have funding for the Enviroschools Programme beyond 2009. They explained that, [sic] “the quality of the programmes or services are not the issue – they are just not the most important ways of achieving the Government’s goals.”
I thought the whole point of government is to facilitate and implement the goals and desires of the people? No? It makes you wonder who's and which agenda takes priority. Especially when you see such two-faced decisions and policies, between pre and post election.
This is NOT the future we envisage for our schools and as citizens of New Zealand we all have a right to play a part in deciding the future of our schools.
